Audition Update is moving. Click here to learn more.

Hello Everyone,

You’ve heard us talking about it all summer, and we’re finally ready to show you what we’ve been working on. I’m proud to announce that is moving to its new home on the Backstage Community.

What are the benefits of this new location? It’s anonymous, it's mobile-friendly, it’s easier to police spam content and fake accounts, and best of all, it has collapsed threads! In addition, our developer team will be able to make changes, fix bugs, and implement new features much faster and easier on this new platform.

You’ll notice there’s a banner across the top of the screen here advertising the new location. If you click through that link, it will bring you to the registration screen where you can create your account and automatically receive the “Veteran” flair for being an Audition Update user. Even if you already have a Backstage account, clicking through the link will grant you the flair automatically so everyone will know you’ve been here a while and know what you’re talking about.

We’ll be decommissioning this forum slowly over the coming weeks, so you should save any threads or details that you want to reference later at your earliest convenience.

We know this will really help to improve things here at Audition Update, and we want to thank you - the community - for being here with us through the whole process.

I got a voicemail on Monday to schedule my audition, and called back to confirm but had to leave another voicemail. The woman was wondering if I was going to sing or just do a monologue. When I called back I said monologue only, but she never returned my call to confirm my appointment and tell me what the monologue requirement was. I'm going to go anyway, but wondering if anyone else with an appointment knows what they're looking for? Playbill and their website don't clarify. I was kind of assuming 60-90 seconds, but not sure if classic or contemporary/ comedic or dramatic. (they're doing Midsummer and Man Who Came to Dinner as straight plays, so I'm thinking comedic shakespeare?) Any insight? Much appreciated!

She told me to have a few pieces ready. Both classically and contemp. Apparently a very welcoming room and you’ll talk with the artistic dir about what you have ready and he’ll tell you what he’d like to see. I am personally not singing but I’m assuming would be a similar situation if you are.

    Thank you, that's super helpful!

Yes-seems to be very chill. They basically asked me what I’d like to do for them. I’m doing a comedic monologue and 32 bars.

Did anyone hear about callbacks/were they ITR?

    awopbamboo 01/11/2018  11:57am

My appointment (initial not callback) is tomorrow morning.

    iheardtheresfreecoffee 01/11/2018  12:41pm

I guess they aren’t doing callbacks at all? Maybe later date after they hold their other auditions later on. This is their first year doing appointments in NY.

    Josh 01/11/2018  2:13pm

Anyone remember the name of the director who was ITR?

    AnathemaDevice 01/11/2018  5:41pm

I believe it was Robert (Bob) Shea

    SoMuchForThat 01/11/2018  5:51pm

I’m a little confused about this audition. Were AEA members auditioning for Barnstormers or were these appointments only for the non-AEA production of Midsummer at New Art Theatre? I know Bob Shea is AD at both places.

    KikiB 01/11/2018  6:03pm

    monitor said no callbacks.

    towel 01/11/2018  7:13pm

Does anyone know what time they are auditioning until??

    cmccrewell 01/11/2018  10:54pm

They were going until 5 today. They were very on time/early, too.

    AnathemaDevice 01/11/2018  10:59pm

Did anyone else get a weird email from them today to just come by to Ripley whenever?

    HeyHey 01/12/2018  4:32pm

Nope. Was it for a callback? Or initial appointment?

    AnathemaDevice 01/12/2018  4:49pm

    Initial. Excerpt:

"We have had an overwhelming response to the non equity auditions for the Barnstormers Theatre/New Art Theatre. Trying to reach out to all applicants is challenging. If you would like to come to Ripley Grier, 520 eighth ave. today , Friday , studio 17J… please respond."

    HeyHey 01/12/2018  4:52pm

DId anyone get a sense of the timeline for this? When can we expect to hear?

    Heyjude87000 01/12/2018  5:14pm

Got the email last night and responded, no response this morning or at all today. Showed up to Ripley around 440 and they had already left for the day

    cmccrewell 01/12/2018  7:39pm

    also got this email.
sent a text to the number provided asking if I could video submit--but nothing.
